Cream albums

The super group of Eric Clapton (Yardbirds/John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers), Jack Bruce (Graham Bond Organisation) and Ginger Baker (Graham Bond Organisation). Tensions between Bruce and Baker led to the breakup of Cream.

After Cream Clapton and Baker returned in the band Blind Faith with Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group/Traffic)) and Ric Grech (Family/Traffic). After Blind Faith Clapton formed Derek And The Dominos before going solo. Bruce went solo. And after Blind Faith Baker formed the jazz-fusion band: Ginger Baker's Air Force.

Fresh Cream (1966) - rating: ***
The first album is a blues rock style album. The opener "I Feel Free" as well as "I'm So Glad" are the most accessible songs on the album. There is also a cover of a classic blues number: "Spoonful". N.S.U. is also a great number although I have no idea where the title's letters  stands for.

Disraeli Gears (1967) - rating: ****
They move their blues rock into psychedelica but the blues is still there. Again the first track is good familar tune. In this case "Strange Brew" followed by "Sunshine of Your Love" which was a big hit. "World of Pain" is a much softer song. Less know but highly brilliant are "Dance the Night Away" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses". It ends with the humorous "Mother's Lament," about a thin child slipping down the bath-tub drain.

Wheels Of Fire (1968) - rating: ****
Just like the previous album it starts with a familiar song "White Room". One of the best songs of Cream is included titled "Passing The Time" as well as "As You Said". "It also includes some very long extended live songs performed at The Fillmore. The studio part of the album is much much better. Again a psychedelic album cover.

Goodbye (1969) - rating: *
The last album again was half live (3) half studio (3). The studio part is actually the single "Badge" which was released with 2 different B-sides and you get both of them here. That's all! It was issued by the record company for contractual reasons. So goodbye!
